A day at the seaside, bucket and spade included
This style takes your pet to the British seaside on a perfect late-summer day. They sit by a striped deckchair on golden sand, with a row of brightly painted beach huts behind, a sandcastle topped with a little paper flag, an ice-cream cone close at hand and a clear blue sky with a few fluffy clouds. The painting is sunny and full of colour, with crisp shadows, a sparkling sea and a gentle nostalgic feel, like a modern take on a vintage railway poster.
Seaside outfits
Choose a pair of round sunglasses, a floppy straw sun hat, a striped sailor top or the classic knotted handkerchief on the head. Or skip the costume and let a sandy coat speak for itself.
Scenes along the coast
Set your pet among the beach huts, on the promenade by an old pier, beside rock pools at low tide, or at the water's edge with a bucket and spade. Each scene keeps the bright summer palette.
Who it suits
Families who head to the coast every summer, anyone whose dog lives for the beach, and people who have moved away from a seaside town and miss it. It is a happy present for a summer birthday or a reminder of a favourite holiday. Dogs who love the water are obvious stars, but tortoises, rabbits, guinea pigs and parrots look very funny in sunglasses, and a donkey on the sand completes the picture.
The Summer bank holiday falls on the last Monday in August in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and at the start of August in Scotland. See our August bank holiday portraits for more ideas.
Photos that work
A clear, bright photo with the face in focus gives the best result; holiday snaps are fine if your pet is not squinting into the sun. For two pets, upload one photo of each. If your dog is usually soaking wet at the beach, a dry photo will show their true coat better. Our guide to pet photos has more pointers.
Text and printing
A name with a line such as "Wish you were here" in a bold poster font suits the style, set along the top like a holiday postcard. Our software adds it after the image is made, so the spelling is always correct. Posters and framed prints show off the colours; landscape orientation gives the beach room. For hillsides and hiking trails, try the outdoor adventure style, or see the full holidays collection.
Sand, sea and sunshine are all created by AI, so there is no sand in the car afterwards. Plan your pet's day at the seaside.
About this style
Will the knotted handkerchief cover my pet's ears?
No. The handkerchief is tied loosely on top of the head with the ears showing beside it, so their shape stays recognisable. For pets with large upright ears, the sun hat or sunglasses may look more natural. Include the top of the head in your photo so any hat sits convincingly.
Can two pets share the beach?
Yes. Up to two animals can share the scene, for example a dog beside the deckchair and a tortoise next to the sandcastle. Upload one clear photo of each. Realistic sizes are kept, and both animals are placed so their faces are clearly visible.
Is this a real beach I would recognise?
No. The beach huts, pier and promenade are invented in a classic British seaside style, so the scene feels familiar without copying a particular town. If you want a nod to a place you love, mention details such as white cliffs or pastel huts in your notes. Results vary, but the scene will lean that way where it can.
Can I add a postcard-style message?
Yes. Add a short line such as "Wish you were here" with your pet's name. It is typeset after the artwork is made, so it is spelled exactly as you type it, and you can preview it before paying. A bold poster font along the top gives it the look of a vintage holiday postcard.
