Light, airy and quietly detailed
This is watercolour at its calmest. Your pet is built up in transparent layers of soft colour on a cold-pressed paper texture, with the darkest, most careful detail kept for the eyes, nose and the line of the mouth. Towards the edges the washes thin out and fade into bare white paper, so the portrait feels like it is gently emerging from the page.
Palette
Colours are softened versions of your pet's own: a ginger cat becomes apricot and peach, a black dog shifts into blue-grey and violet. Small blooms and granulation in the paint add a hand-made look, even though the image is AI-generated.
Where it works
Nurseries, bedrooms, bright kitchens and Scandi-style rooms. It is a thoughtful present for a new pet, a birthday or a gentle remembrance piece for someone who prefers lightness over solemnity.
Best pets and photos
Soft-coated animals look lovely: Cavapoos, bichons, long-haired cats, rabbits, and pastel-feathered birds such as cockatiels or lovebirds. A head-and-shoulders photo in diffused daylight is ideal. Harsh shadows can turn into muddy patches, so avoid direct midday sun; the photo guide explains what to look for.
Lettering and print
A name in delicate script beneath the portrait, or a short line such as a date, suits the airy feel. Fine art prints on textured matt paper are the natural choice, in a white or pale oak frame. If you want stronger colour and dramatic drips, try the expressive watercolour splash.

About this style
Will the paper texture show on a print?
Yes. The soft paper grain and the way the washes settle into it are part of the artwork, so they appear on every print. On a matt art print the effect looks natural. It is a printed texture rather than real watercolour paper, so the surface itself is smooth.
My pet is black. Will a pastel watercolour work?
Yes. Dark coats are interpreted with cool blue-greys, slate and soft violet rather than solid black, which keeps the watercolour feel. Highlights on the fur and eyes help shape the face. Choose a photo with good light so the features are not lost in shadow.
Can I have a coloured background instead of white?
You can pick a pale blush wash, a soft sage wash or a light sky blue, as well as the default white paper. The backgrounds stay delicate and fade towards the edges. A plain white background gives the cleanest look for framing.
